Non-accessible Content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Text does not meet sufficient contrast requirements against the page background. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum).
Rendering issues are present with text when zooming text only to 200% using browser zoom controls. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.4 Resize text. Two-dimensional scrolling is required to access page content when zooming the page to 400% with a browser width of 1280px. This fails WCAG 2.2. success criterion 1.2.10 reflow.
The accordion elements on the Profile page are not accessible using keyboard controls. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1. Keyboard
Single-character keyboard shortcutes are present and cannot be turned off or remapped. This can impact users of speech recognition or users with mobility issues and make navigation difficult. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.4. Character Key Shortcuts
A ‘Skip to Main Content’ link or similar is not present on the ‘Profile’ page, including this link will allow keyboard and assistive technology users to bypass repeated navigational components across the site. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks.
The focus indicator is not visible for some user interface elements. This can make it difficult for keyboard-only users to keep track of the elements currently in focus. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.7 Focus Visible.
Status messages are announced incorrectly or not announced by screen readers. This may result in users being unable to correct input errors. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages.
What are we doing to improve accessibility
We provide alternative access or are looking to improve accessibility by:
ensuring downloadable metadata PDF content is available on the NRW DataDiscovery service in other accessible formats
we are reliant on the GeoNetwork Open-Source development community to provide accessibility fixes, however, we have prioritised seeking fixes for the following:
improve keyboard shortcut functionality to reduce impact on users of speech recognition or those with mobility issues that makes navigation difficult
improve focus indicator visibility for keyboard users
improve use of ARIA and therefore content announcing by screen readers
improve announcing of status messages to avoid input errors
we will apply and resolve issues that affect users as resources and fixes become available
we will continue to review and prioritise accessibility issues that affect users as they are identified
